Sea Level Rise Committee

The Sea-Level Rise Committee was formed in 2016 and it's mission is to "assess and understand the threats posed by SLR, storm surge, and other flooding events and inform Vinalhaven about the actions necessary to become more resilient and better understand Vinalhaven's circumstances relative to Sea-Level Rise.

In Fall 2016, Vinalhaven was a recipient of a Maine Coastal Program Planning Grant to conduct a vulnerability assessment of Carver's Harbor.  The final report with recommendations can be found here.

In Spring 2017, Vinalhaven was awarded a Design and Resiliency Team grant.  This technical assistance grant provided expertise in envisioning a more resilient downtown.  This grant helped to inform our on-going Downtown Revitalization work by providing concepts around social resiliency, coastal flooding, complete streets, and recommendations for moving foward, click here to view their final report.
