A negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours prior to arrival in Maine can be used as an alternative to the 14-day quarantine.
Can I get tested on-island?
ICMS is the only facility on Vinalhaven where you can receive a COVID-19 test. But ICMS does not have the capacity to become a “swab and send site”.
From ICMS:
Our lab vendor continues to define our testing algorithm, which is based on their ability to provide us with testing kits.
ICMS will not be testing for COVID-19 as an “Alternative to Quarantine”.
If you require Covid-19 testing before surgery or an appointment at a mainland facility, please follow up with your primary care provider to arrange COVID-19 testing.
ICMS will collect COVID-19 specimens under the following conditions:
  1. Established Patients who meet ICMS’ testing protocols.
  2. Patients who have COVID-19 symptoms and meet our testing protocols.
  3. Formal agreement with Pen Bay OB/GYN
Although someone may receive a negative test before arriving on Vinalhaven, ICMS will continue to determine in-person visits based on our current protocols. ICMS still requires all health center visitors to self-quarantine for 14 days prior to being seen, except for urgent and emergent issues. If you have any additional questions, please contact our office at (207) 863-4341.
Where can I get tested in Maine?
DHHS and Maine CDC have put out a new map showing the location of swab and send test sites.
Where are testing locations in other states?
ICMS is strongly urging visitors to follow the State’s recommendation to “Know Before You Go”. Before traveling to VInalhaven, get tested for COVID-19 and receive results in your home state, either at a mobile testing site or by your primary care provider. This will allow you to make informed decisions about whether or not to travel.
Websites like Get Tested COVID-19 show local testing options nationwide.
